I've been a member of the L&C Fanfic List for about two years and I run a L&C fan club newsletter, in which I get to write fanfic recommendations. o)

Lois and Clark or Superman Status

How long have you been watching L&C?
From day one. I got obsessed around the beginning of the second season.

How long have you been a fan of Superman?
Since L&C began.

How long have you been writing?
Since I could. And before that, I was making up stories in my head.

How long have you been writing L&C fanfic?
I started in 1995.

What types of Fanfic have you written?
Comedy, round robin, and next generation.

Most recent story posted? Where?
I posted "Every Little Detail" to the fanfic archive in July. I wrote that in 1999 and came across it two years later and decided it wasn't so bad except it needed an overhaul (okay, it was pretty bad.) The most recent story, technically, is "Just Another Saturday Night," which was a round-robin I did with Andrea Gidusko. We wrote that in November of 2000. Favorite story you have written? Why?
I spent three months working on "My Almost Perfect Life"... working on it every day, rewriting, editing. When I thought I was done, I realized one scene needed to be removed, I needed more dialogue somewhere else . . . and then it was back to square one. I've never worked so hard on a story as I did with that baby. So even though I read it now and think, "Wow . . . I could improve this in sooo many ways," it's my favorite.

Current project/projects?
I'm in the beginning stages of writing a non-L&C story. (I'm such a traitor, I know.)

General Interview Questions

What attracted you to writing Fanfic and what about it do you enjoy?
I saw other FOLCs doing it and wanted to jump in, too. I had ideas that I felt hadn't been explored yet . . . or at least explored the way I wanted. I just love being able to make characters do and say whatever I want. I watch a lot of movies and have a few TV shows that I love, and I just hate it when the characters don't do what I would have them do. Writing gives me power. The power to be really strange or to be really influential. Whatever I feel like.

What about the L&C and the characters do you like the most?
I love L&C because it always had an amazing story that would continue from episode to episode. I didn't like the Arc but I did like the story arcs in general. What do I love about the characters? They love to talk! It gives writers a lot of room in which to work. You can make them say almost anything -- they can be serious, funny, sentimental, or whatever.

How do you interpret them in your work?
I take a few liberties. Occasionally I make Lois or Clark do and say things they probably wouldn't do. My excuse is, on the show, they'd sometimes act totally out of character, and, hey, we all can have moments where we don't act like ourselves. Though I do go off on the occasional weird trip with the characters, I mostly try to keep them true to how they were on the show.

How did you begin writing in general?
I've been doing creative writing since third grade and kept it up throughout school. By some weird miracle, I won a few writing contests in middle school and high school, and that encouraged me to keep going. I don't think I'm especially talented, but I do have fun and if people like what I write, then it's worth it. And if they don't like it . . . well, hey, it's still worth it. It's just fun. o)

How do you feel about being nominated for a Kerth Award?
When I found out I was nominated, I remember gasping, squealing like a small animal, and then plastering a big grin on my face that would not go away for an hour. It was pretty cool.

What story of yours was nominated for a Kerth Award and could you tell about it?
"My Almost Perfect Life" was nominated in the 2000 awards. It's a next-generation story about Lois and Clark's daughter, who is starting to get superpowers.

Have you ever been nominated for the Kerth Award before? If so, please name the fanfic and tell something about it.
"Perfectly Not Normal" (the prequel to the above-mentioned story) and "Cooking With The Kents" (a round robin to which I contributed a few paragraphs) were nominated in the 1999 awards.

What are you working on now and where do you see it going?
Nothing! Ha ha, aren't I a slacker? In all seriousness, I've been so busy with school and working and being obsessed with movies and other things that I haven't had much time for writing. I have an entire outline worked out for a sequel to "My Almost Perfect Life," but . . . I don't know if that will go anywhere. I want to concentrate on writing non-L&C things, but I'll always keep my mind open to writing another L&C fanfic.

What is your opinion about the following types of L&C fanfic's?
Action?
I'm not big on reading about Superman's heroic rescues, and I don't really like violence either. But there are many exceptions. Some fanfics are just wonderful, and they contain action and I enjoy them. So I like action in moderation, I guess.

Drama?
I like a little angst but I don't like seeing the characters in constant peril. It just gets old. ("Aw, look, Lois is tied to a bomb. Again.") Though we did seem to get a lot of that on the show . . . hmmm. o) Romance is great as long as it doesn't send the story packing for a one-way trip to Mushville.

Humor?
Oh my gosh, someone please get out there and start writing more of this. I crave it! There was so much humor on Lois & Clark, especially in the early seasons, that I'm shocked there aren't more humorous stories out there. But there are a few jewels -- those that get nominated in the Best Comedy category, for example -- and a few others that are overlooked.

Round Robin?
I like to write them. Reading them can be a little confusing, what with the writing styles switching all the time, but there have been quite a few great ones.

Nfic?
Tried it, didn't care for it. I appreciate writers who write non-nfic versions of their stories so that people like me can enjoy the stories without reading about the sex.

Has *everything* been done in your opinion, and if not, what is left?
No. There are many more ideas. Just use your imagination! I do keep seeing the same things over and over though. With slightly different angles. But then I see a totally original story and I just think, wow, we haven't done everything!

What do you think makes the best story?
This may sound funny, but I really love a story that has a twist. Especially twists involving time rips or loops or travel or something. I can't write them -- my mind gets all crunchy when I try -- but I love to read them. So I'll take what I can get.

I love to read all kinds of things -- mysteries, science fiction, adventure, Harry Potter o) -- and so the idea of being able to read stories about my favorite romantic duo, Lois and Clark, was like a dream come true, when I first discovered it. Lois & Clark, the show, has made a huge impact on my life, and fanfic supplements my obsession.
